Toyota has once again given all of us the hint to launch its own EV in India by showcasing the Innova EV Concept this time at the 2025 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS). However, to make it very clear, Toyota has not officially announced any plans for bringing this electric MPV to India—or any other market for that matter. The Innova EV is still in its conceptual stage and there hasn’t been any production model revealed to us yet but we believe that an all-electric Toyota Innova could be a game-changer, especially in our Indian market.
What’s New this time?
The previous versions that have been shown to us didn’t include a lot of updates that have been made this time. This includes bright New LED headlamps and tail lamps that give it a refreshing look, a Blanked-off front grille which is a signature design element of EVs, an EV-specific instrument cluster inside the cabin, and a Button-based gear selector. While the exterior and interior updates look minor, the real game-changer is what lies under the hood (or rather, under the floor).
Why an Electric Innova Could Be a Blockbuster
It is known to all that the Toyota Innova is already a legendary nameplate in India, whether it’s the Crysta model or the Hycross model. Therefore we hypothesize that if Toyota introduces an electric powertrain, it could take the brand’s sales to new heights—just as we’ve seen with models like the Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Nexon EV, and Tata Punch EV, which significantly boosted their respective lineups.
Additionally, if you look at the current scenario, the only electric MPV under ₹50 lakh is the BYD e6 Max 7. Later this year, Kia is expected to launch the Carens EV but still, the choices for potential customers remain extremely limited. This leaves a huge gap in the market for a practical, comfortable, and spacious 7-seater electric MPV—a gap that the Innova EV could fill perfectly.
When we consider that the diesel Innova Crysta is priced between ₹19.99 lakh and ₹26.82 lakh (ex-showroom), a below ₹50 lakh price tag for the Innova EV looks very realistic.
Powertrain & Expected Performance
For the first time, Toyota has revealed the specifications of the Innova EV, and they look very promising:
- Battery Pack: 59.3 kWh
- Power Output: 182 PS
- Torque: 700 Nm (massive!)
- Estimated Range: 350-400 km (TBA)
Will Toyota Launch the Innova EV?
As of now, Toyota has not confirmed any plans to launch the Innova EV. While the concept seems realistic, it is still in early development stages.
However given the rising demand for electric family cars, a production version of the Innova EV could eventually make its way to global markets, including India. If Toyota decides to move forward, it could revolutionize the MPV segment, just as Innova has done for nearly two decades.
